Medical breakthrough for dogs with heartworms!!!?
Actually, if it's a very mild case, the Ivermectin in Heartgard will clear it up over a period of time since Ivermectin prevents any more worms from maturing. I've had a few foster dogs with very mild heartworm be treated with Ivermectin. It's very common for rescues to treat mild cases with Ivermectin, especially if they don't know for sure if the dog will be adopted. It's a good way to control the disease without spending the hundreds of dollars it takes to go the other route. It's when it's a more severe case that Ivermectin can be dangerous and the traditional treatment is necessary.
