Material that is transparent mouldable and rubbery?

Have you tried liquid latex - you can get it at most craft shops. Try for example, coating a football in cling film then 'drawing' your design in latex on the ball, let it dry and hey presto! It may not be solid enough for what you want though. Your piece sounds v interesting!
